Summary: The first red flag was the for sale sign in the yard, indicating the home wasn’t regularly occupied. Upon arrival, we couldn’t access the house because the access code hadn’t been set up, forcing us to manage our bags in 100-degree weather. Initially, the property seemed as pictured: a large home with a nice kitchen and sparkling pool. However, the cleanliness left much to be desired. While the pool was inviting, the deck chairs, gazebo, and sitting area were covered in thick layers of dirt and grime, requiring us to clean them ourselves before use. The pool deck had visible cracks, cobwebs, and outdoor furniture soiled with dirt, detracting from its appeal. This lack of maintenance made it clear the host had not prepared the space adequately. Additionally, the deck at the rear of the house was in poor condition, with missing wood pieces, exposed nails, and cracks that made it look unsafe, especially for our group that included young children. Inside, the home offered ample beds, but the couches in the living room were filled with food debris and trash between the cushions. Overall, we were disappointed by the lack of cleanliness and maintenance. Renting a vacation home, we didn’t expect to have to clean outdoor furniture or wash bedding upon arrival.
