MarVal Resort, on the Lower Illinois River below the Tenkiller dam, is the place to catch rainbow trout.

An additional attraction is the Gruber Public Hunting Area and the Cherokee Game Refuge on old Camp Gruber near the western shore of the lake. Combined, the areas make up over 68,000 acres of public hunting ground.
Principal game species include whitetail deer, bobwhite quail, mourning dove, duck, geese, cottontail rabbit, and squirrel.
